About Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island is a barrier island on Flordia’s Gulf Coast. It is known for its beautiful, broad beaches, as well as the beach where you can swim with the Manatees. While the island is only 7 miles long and two miles wide, it is nothing shy of breathtaking. With hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, Anna Maria Island offers locals and travelers an amazing, warm experience no matter the time of year.
They say that birds have a certain intuition and insight that motivates their behaviors and migrations. During the cold winter months, many species are known to travel to warmer climates, building habitats in regions that allow them to escape the chilling rain, snow, and freezing temperatures of the north. Maybe they’re onto something?
Don’t let a harsh winter drag you down. Sunshine, salty breezes, and sugar-sand shores are closer than you think! Located in Florida’s Manatee County, Anna Maria Island is Florida’s best kept secret, nestled about halfway down the western edge of the state along the Gulf Coast. This barrier island community, 40 miles south of Tampa Bay and 7 miles west of Bradenton, is accessible by three drawbridges; two from the mainland and one from Longboat Key. Beyond the birds, the island plays host to an array of amazing sea creatures, including Loggerhead turtles, manatees, and dolphins. Here, the sun is shining brightly 360 days of the year, and average winter temperatures hover around the 70s on the high end and the 50s on the low end. The best months to experience winter on Anna Maria Island are December through February.
Visitors choose Anna Maria Island to take advantage of the beautiful weather and epic outdoor recreation opportunities, but we certainly see our fair share of guests who simply want to bask in the warmth of the ocean air while polishing their beach bum skills, and that’s just fine too. Visit one of several beaches, drop a line for some pier fishing, or spend time on the water boating. surfing, swimming, or kayaking. Do it all – or nothing at all.
Forbes chose AMI as the “#3 Prettiest City in the Country” and Condé Nast Traveler calls it one of the “Top 30 Islands in the World.” We couldn’t agree more.
